Prince William Plans to Join UN Climate Conference in South America
Prince William will represent the United Nations climate conference in South America next month, according to palace sources.
Prince William and King Charles made a joint appearance on Thursday evening at a event ahead of the environmental conference, which is set to be held in the Amazonian city of Belem.
The King and Prince were in attendance at the Natural History Museum reception, marking an unusual joint appearance at a pre-COP30 gathering organized in partnership with the British authorities.
Climate Leadership Commitment
The King has been a consistent supporter of environmental conservation - and Prince William has taken on the baton, with his own environmental prize initiative, which will be taking place in South America preceding the climate conference.
Official representatives have described William's involvement at the upcoming climate summit as stepping up an significant responsibility in "climate diplomacy".
Recent Engagements
The King and Prince of Wales, making a joint entrance in the royal vehicle, were introduced to attendees such as conservation experts, scientists, climate change campaigners, diplomats and politicians.
This involvement included speaking together with French leader Macron of France and other world leaders at the Marine Economy Conference in the Principality of Monaco earlier this year.
Earthshot Awards Connection
The climate conference will coincide with the prince's own Earthshot environmental awards, which will wrap up in the Brazilian city the eve of he attends the COP summit on the sixth of November.
Recently the prince characterized the Earthshot finalists as "contemporary champions".
Royal Climate Legacy
King Charles has been a influential participant at previous climate summits, delivering the inaugural speech in the United Arab Emirates for COP28, including the reminder: "Our responsibility is to protect the world we inhabit".
"For decades I've committed a large proportion of my life trying to alert people to the existential threats facing us over planetary heating, environmental shifts and ecological decline," the sovereign addressed attendees.
